The high-profile trial of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack and 14 others has been delayed due to one of the accused being ill.
Modack and his co-accused face numerous charges related to allegedly operating a criminal enterprise.
The cross-examination of accused number 4, Toufeek Brown, came to a halt on Wednesday after accused number 5, Riyaad Gesant, told the court he wasn’t feeling well.
Presiding judge Robert Henney subpoenaed a clinical nurse working at Pollsmoor prison to appear before the court on Thursday.
Henney wants the nurse to provide clarity on whether accused Riyaad Gesant is fit to attend trial.
Proceedings adjourned early on Wednesday, after Gesant told the court he wasn’t feeling well.

However, when the matter resumed on Thursday, Gesant said he was still ill despite being issued a note from the nurse saying he was fit to attend proceedings.
“She needs to provide us with a proper clinical diagnosis in a document; otherwise, if not, I will subpoena her,” said Henney
Henney later issued a subpoena for the nurse to appear in court today.
