Gauteng issues 572 operating licences to compliant transport operators

The Gauteng department of Roads and Transport has handed over 572 valid operating licences to compliant minibus taxi and scholar transport operators in ceremonies held this week.

According to the department the handovers brought the total number of licences issued since November last year to more than 3,000.

It said that the progress reflects efforts to improve administrative systems and ensure compliant operators can legally provide safe, reliable and regulated public transport.

Spokesperson Lesiba Mpya said that operators who have not collected their licences are urged to visit the office where they applied.

“Operators who were unable to collect their licences during the handover ceremonies are encouraged to visit the Tolab office where they submitted their applications to verify the status of their applications and make arrangements for collection. Operators are advised to bring proof of application, such as an application receipt, as well as a copy of their identity document, to enable officials to verify their details and assist them accordingly,” said Mpya.
