The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of damaging winds and waves along the KwaZulu-Natal coast, as well as damaging interior winds over parts of the Northern Cape and Western Cape.

Isolated showers are forecast for parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo and the Eastern Cape.

Impact-based warnings

Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging wind and waves resulting in localised disruption of small harbours and ports, difficulty in navigation and localised damage to infrastructure and settlements are expected along the coast between Port Edward and Richards Bay.

Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging interior winds leading to localised damage to settlements and localised problems for high-sided vehicles on prone routes due to cross winds on exposed high-level roads are expected over the Namakwa District Municipality in the Northern Cape and the central Karoo District Municipality in the Western Cape.

In the SAWS colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.

The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, Level 5 is medium, and levels 4 and 8 are low.
