Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane said that the province’s new Director of Public Prosecutions brings a wealth of experience to the fight against crime and corruption.
Advocate Samkelo Mtwana officially took up the position earlier this week, after serving in an acting capacity since April.
Premier Mabuyane welcomed Mtwana’s appointment, saying his experience in prosecution, commercial crime and anti-corruption work will be valuable in strengthening the province’s prosecuting authority.
The Premier said that Eastern Cape residents, like all South Africans, depend on strong, independent, and effective justice institutions.
He said that the provincial government remains committed to tackling crime, corruption, and gender-based violence, while respecting the independence of the National Prosecuting Authority.
Mabuyane said that he hopes Mtwana’s leadership will help restore public confidence in the criminal justice system and ensure that those who break the law are held accountable through fair and effective prosecution.
