The South African National Taxi Council (SANTACO) in the Western Cape said the motive for the incident is yet to be determined.
Western Cape Mobility Department spokesperson Muneera Allie said transport officials are deeply concerned about recent incidents of taxi-related violence.
The recent flare-up comes just three weeks after the department and the City of Cape Town mediated with four taxi associations operating to end a deadly dispute related to taxi routes in the southern suburbs.
Allie said officials are now consulting to find a new solution.
“While the circumstances surrounding the individual incidents are being investigated by SAPS [South African Police Service], we are actively engaging with our stakeholders on a range of measures to help address the situation and restore stability.”
SANTACO said its mediators are trying to foster peace talks between the rivalling taxi associations.
