The Western Cape Government says it has concluded its voluntary repatriation programme of foreign nationals.
It says dozens of buses were secured to repatriate every migrant who presented at municipal facilities and the Department of Home Affairs office in Epping.
Premier Alan Winde has thanked all stakeholders involved, including the municipality, national government, humanitarian organisations, faith-based partners and law enforcement agencies.
Winde says the centres used to facilitate the repatriation process have now been closed for that purpose.
“The buses finally have left all of these halls and all of these spaces during last night and into the early hours of this morning.  Today’s one was the final one and facilitated the final closure of all of these halls and spaces made available.”
Â
Winde says no further transport logistics for voluntary repatriation will be undertaken by municipalities.
Â
“Anybody who still finds themselves perhaps without the correct documentation and they are a foreign national in the region, they are asked to go to the embassies, their consulates, or to the Home Affairs offices.”
