SASSA fires 4 Limpopo officials over R33m fraud scheme

The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has dismissed four officials from its Limpopo division on Thursday over a R33 million social grant fraud scheme.

The officials were found guilty of manipulating the social grants system in an attempt to defraud SASSA of money intended for vulnerable South Africans.

Although they appealed the internal disciplinary finding, their appeals were unsuccessful due to the seriousness of the misconduct.

SASSA spokesperson Tebogo Tshipi said social grant fraud by the agency’s own employees would never be tolerated.

“SASSA maintains a zero-tolerance approach to fraud and corruption. The agency is committed to safeguarding the integrity of the social grant system and ensuring that funds reach the rightful beneficiaries who depend on them for survival.”
