Popular Limpopo businessman released on R50,000 bail in malicious damage and arson case

A popular Limpopo businessman known for his anti-drug campaigns on social media has been released on bail after appearing in the Polokwane Magistrate’s court.

Tsebe Moloto, popularly known as Mr Moloto, was granted bail of R50,000 on Tuesday.

He was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation at his Polokwane home after investigators linked him to two counts of malicious damage to property allegedly committed in June.

He built a reputation online for his tough stance against drugs and his outspoken, often humorous approach to community discipline.

But on Tuesday it was Moloto answering to the law.

The state alleges that he set fire to a rehabilitation centre’s signboard and later torched the vehicle of his former girlfriend and business partner last month, causing an estimated R800,000 in damages.

Prosecutors further told the court that flames from the burning vehicle spread to a nearby house where seven people were asleep, placing their lives at risk.

Moloto’s case has been postponed to 22 September for further investigation.
