Emergency services arrived on the scene after a truck and an SUV collided on the N1. Free State Road Incident Management Systems chairman Sipho Towa said one person was pronounced dead at the scene, while another suffered minor injuries.

The injured patient was stabilized before being transported to Albert Nzula Hospital in Trompsburg. Towa said law enforcement agencies remained on the scene until the accident scene was cleared.
Despite the collision, the roadway was not affected, allowing traffic to continue to flow past the accident.
Meanwhile, another accident was later reported on the R57 between Sasolburg and Heilbron. The collision involved a truck, a bakkie and a motorcycle, which left one person with moderate injuries and two others with minor injuries.
Emergency medical services, including EMS and ER24, transported the injured patients to nearby hospitals for further treatment.

Towa said the accident scene stretched for about a kilometer, with heavy traffic congestion and debris scattered across the roadway. He extended his condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and urged motorists to be extra careful on the roads.
He advised motorists to reduce their speed, remain alert for debris and obey road signs and instructions from traffic officials.
