Limpopo businessman (51) to appear in court for allegedly setting rehab centre, vehicle alight

A 51-year-old Limpopo businessman is expected to appear in court on Monday after his arrest for allegedly setting fire to a rehabilitation centre signboard and a vehicle last month.

Police said the suspect, known for his drug fighting efforts in social media, was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation at his home in Welgelegen, in Polokwane, after investigators linked him to both incidents last month.

The fires caused an estimated R800,000 in damage, with flames from the burning vehicle spreading to a house where seven people were asleep.

“The suspect is expected to appear before the Seshego and Polokwane Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday, 14 July 2026, on charges of malicious damage to property. The investigations are ongoing,” explained the Limpopo SAPS’ spokesperson, Malesela Ledwaba.
