The Gauteng Health Department has condemned the theft and vandalism of infrastructure at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital.
The department confirmed the arrest of a suspect Saturday evening after they were spotted on the roof of the main kitchen building.
Preliminary investigations indicate the suspect allegedly gained access through an unsecured plant room. The suspect later led security officials to several stolen hospital water taps hidden near a ward. Police have also linked him to similar thefts at other sections of the hospital.
Gauteng Health spokesperson Steve Mabona stated that the department has tightened security and launched a broader assessment of vulnerable access points across the facility.
