Fifteen dead as Eastern Cape-bound bus overturns | The Witness

Fifteen people were killed and several others injured after a bus carrying 78 passengers overturned on the N1 near Touws River in the early hours of Thursday morning.

According to the South African Police Service (SAPS), emergency services and disaster management teams responded to the scene before 1 am.

Preliminary reports indicate that the bus was travelling from Cape Town to the Eastern Cape when it overturned. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Seven adult men, five adult women and three children were declared dead at the scene.

Several passengers sustained injuries of varying severity and were transported to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
