ANC demands probe into Western Cape contracts for Tony Leon’s PR firm

The ANC’s Western Cape leadership claims Resolve Communications has been influencing political discourse through “Bell Pottinger-style” PR tactics.

That British firm was implicated in the state capture project, and the UK’s Public Relations and Communications Association ultimately expelled it following a complaint by the DA.

Now, the ANC claims Tony Leon’s PR company has been trying to highlight clean and good governance in the province, while a Constitutional Court judgment and a Public Protector’s report have found otherwise.

Leader of the Opposition in the Western Cape Legislature, Khalid Sayed, said Premier Alan Winde and Local Government MEC Anton Bredell must respond.

“We’ve asked for a list of all municipalities in the Western Cape that have done business with Resolve Communications from 2009, when the DA took over the province, to the present,” Sayed said.

He said they are investigating whether this points to broader corruption and state capture, adding they will approach parliamentary committees if wrongdoing is uncovered.
