Provincial Electoral Officer Michael Hendrickse said special arrangements are also in place to assist homeless communities in obtaining identity documents.
“For the homeless communities, those persons can access their ID documents if they don’t have, Home Affairs will go out on request to those particular centres, but that is something that is managed with the Home Affairs Department,” said Hendrickse.
Hendrickse also reassured voters that proof of address is not required when registering to vote.
“You simply tell us where you are. I also know that in situations where there have been fires in some of our informal settlements, Home Affairs will also go to those areas to assist those voters and citizens who have lost their identity documents,” said Hendrickse.
