Johannesburg and Pretoria are set for a warm and largely sunny winter weekend, while Cape Town residents can expect cooler weather and a chance of rain before conditions improve on Monday, according to AccuWeather.
In Johannesburg, temperatures are forecast to reach 24°C on Saturday, with hazy and warm conditions expected. Air quality is forecast to be very unhealthy. The mercury is expected to drop to 6°C overnight.
Sunday will remain mild with hazy sunshine and a high of 20°C, while temperatures are forecast to climb slightly to 21°C on Monday under continued hazy sunshine.
Pretoria is expected to be even warmer, with temperatures reaching 25°C on Saturday. Hazy and warm conditions are forecast, with very unhealthy air quality also expected. Overnight temperatures are forecast to dip to 8°C.
The capital is expected to record a high of 21°C on Sunday with hazy sunshine before warming to 22°C on Monday, when plenty of sunshine is forecast.
Rain chances remain minimal across both Gauteng metros throughout the weekend and into Monday.
Cape Town faces a cooler outlook.
Saturday is forecast to start cloudy before sunshine returns later in the day, with temperatures expected to peak at 17°C.
Conditions are expected to deteriorate on Sunday, with a brief shower or two possible in the morning before mostly cloudy weather settles in. Temperatures are forecast to reach only 15°C, with a 63% chance of precipitation.
By Monday, brighter weather is expected to return to the Mother City, with partly sunny conditions and a high of 18°C forecast.
The contrasting weather patterns mean Gauteng residents can look forward to a warm and sunny winter weekend, while Cape Town residents should keep an umbrella close at hand for Sunday before drier conditions return at the start of the new week.
