Support Bafana: Community viewing sites announced across the Western Cape

The Western Cape Government has announced a series of public viewing sites across the province, giving residents an opportunity to come together and support South Africa’s national team in a safe and family-friendly environment.

Western Cape MEC for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Ricardo Mackenzie, said the initiative aims to ensure communities in every district can share in the excitement of the highly anticipated match while strengthening social cohesion and community spirit.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) has partnered with municipalities and private stakeholders to establish viewing venues across the province, allowing supporters to watch the games close to home.

Mackenzie said sport continues to play a critical role in bringing people together regardless of background, age or culture.

“Sport remains one of the most powerful tools for bringing people together. By creating viewing opportunities in every district, we are ensuring that communities across the Western Cape can experience the excitement collectively, while fostering a sense of belonging and provincial pride,” he said.

The MEC added that the initiative is designed not only to provide access to the match but also to create spaces where communities can celebrate together and strengthen social bonds through a shared sporting experience.

The public viewing sites will be hosted in all districts of the province.

In the Garden Route District, supporters can gather at Thembalethu Sports Grounds in George, while residents in the Central Karoo can watch the match at the Beaufort West Thusong Centre.

The Cape Winelands viewing site will be hosted at the Paarl East Thusong Centre, while those in the Overberg can head to the Grabouw Thusong Centre.

On the West Coast, residents are invited to gather at the White City Multipurpose Centre in Saldanha, while Cape Town supporters can watch the match at the NY110 Sports Park in Gugulethu.

The department has encouraged residents to arrive early and join fellow supporters in celebrating both the national team and the unifying power of sport.

DCAS also thanked municipal partners and private stakeholders who assisted in making the viewing sites possible.

As anticipation builds ahead of the match, Mackenzie said the entire province would be backing the national side.

“The entire Western Cape stands behind you. Make us proud,” he said.
