Despite narrowly missing out on promotion to the Regional League with their senior side, Midrand United FC has plenty to celebrate after its development structures secured promotion to the highly competitive Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) Championship Premier League.
The achievement follows a remarkable 2025 season, in which the club’s junior teams delivered some of the strongest performances in Midrand United’s history, earning recognition and promotion to one of the region’s most demanding youth football competitions.
Club coach Morgan Moodley described the season as a landmark year for the club.

“I just want to say my 2025 season with Rand Central League, with the junior structure from U7 right to U17, was a very promising year for us. It has the best results ever in the history of Midrand United Football Club.”
Among the club’s standout achievements, the U13 side won their league title, while the U11 and U17 teams both finished runners-up, narrowly missing out on top spot. The U15 side secured a fourth-place finish after remaining competitive throughout the campaign.

“The players were performing, and the coaches were doing their job, and that is the reason why Rand Central actually saw the results and promoted us to the championship league.”
The RCLFA Championship Premier League is regarded as one of the strongest development competitions in Gauteng, featuring some of the country’s most respected football academies and youth structures.
Clubs compete across multiple age groups, with fixtures played home and away throughout the season.
Moodley believes the promotion will provide invaluable exposure for the young players.
“It’s basically like the highest level when you’re playing in the Gauteng Development League (GDL). The GDL is a very competitive league, and I see a lot of clubs also now leaving the GDL to come play in the championship league in Rand Central because of the competition.”
While excited about the opportunity, Moodley is keeping expectations realistic for the club’s debut season in the Championship Premier League.

“I told the coaches, and the players, to just keep their heads above the water and stay in the middle of the table. It’s our first year in a new league. We’re not expecting big things immediately, but I know the boys will do well and make Midrand United Football Club proud.”
The coach said the club’s growth has been evident across all age groups, particularly in the younger divisions that form the foundation of the development pathway.

“Our U8s and U10s have grown so much, and that is actually the grassroots of the club. That’s where the club grows from. Our numbers are healthy and strong, and I see a big future for Midrand United in the coming years.”
While the juniors prepare for a new challenge, Moodley remains determined to finally secure promotion with the senior side, after several near misses in recent seasons.

The club finished fourth, third, and, most recently, second in the Midrand Promotional League, missing promotion in the final match of the season.
“We will work hard in the 2026/27 season in the Midrand LFA. We will push to get that number one spot, and I believe in my boys that we can do it.”
