Sadly, one of the students suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene, while the other two sustained serious injuries and were rushed to hospital.

Limpopo Transport and Community Safety spokeswoman, Mashudu Mabata said preliminary information suggests the students tried to escape after the driver failed to stop.
“According to preliminary reports, the students realised that the driver was not stopping and attempted to escape by jumping from the moving vehicle. Sadly, one student lost their life, while the other two sustained serious injuries,” said Mabata.
She said the driver allegedly fled the scene after the incident and police have since launched an investigation.
“Traffic officials and members of the South African Police Service are on the scene awaiting the conclusion of forensic investigations. We urge motorists to exercise caution, be patient, reduce speed and obey all road safety regulations while travelling through the area,” she said.
One lane of the R523 was temporarily closed as emergency services and investigators worked at the scene.
