SIX people lost their lives in a tragic crash on the R542 between Van Dyk’s Drift and Blinkpan near Middelburg in Mpumalanga on Friday morning, 5 June.
Six die at scene
According to Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesman Moeti Mmusi, the fatal collision happened on Friday and claimed the lives of both drivers and four passengers.
All six victims were declared dead at the scene.
“Four other people sustained serious injuries and were transported to hospitals in Middelburg and Emalahleni for medical treatment,” said Mmusi.

Investigation under way
The cause of the crash hasn’t yet been determined, and authorities have launched an investigation to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The latest tragedy has once again highlighted the dangers on South Africa’s roads.
MEC sends condolences
Mpumalanga Community Safety MEC Jackie Macie extended his condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to exercise caution whenever they travel.
“All road users must play their part in preventing the loss of lives on our roads. Every road user must obey traffic laws and remain alert at all times,” said Macie.
The investigation into the deadly crash continues.
