The South African Police Service (SAPS) Search and Rescue Unit, together with the Sundays River Valley Local Municipality Rescue Team, conducted a recovery operation on Sunday morning following the discovery of the body of a missing man in the Sundays River, in the Eastern Cape.
The body of the 35-year-old, believed to be the driver of a Toyota Hilux bakkie that fell into the river on Saturday, was found by community members who had begun searching the area early on Sunday.
According to police, the body was located among debris along the riverbank, about one kilometre from the spot where the vehicle entered the water.
“This brings the total number of deceased persons to three. The two other Zimbabwean nationals were declared dead on the scene on Saturday,” said police spokesperson, Captain Marius McCarthy.
Police said investigations into the incident are continuing.
