One cohort that was positioned outside the legislature moved towards St George’s Cathedral after spotting another group making its way from the Grand Parade.
Although protesters had earlier told the media they would not be marching, the group proceeded up Wales Street towards the legislature, occupying both lanes of the road.
They said they want to be addressed by provincial government officials who accepted several memorandums, including calls for jobs for South Africans ahead of foreign nationals in the province.
Police and law enforcement officers are monitoring the situation.
