Mpumalanga N4 crash: Eight killed, one critically injured

Eight people have lost their lives and another sustained serious injuries follongowing a devastating collision between a taxi and a truck on the N4 toll road in Mpumalanga on Tuesday morning.

The crash occurred between Ngodwana and Waterval Onder, near Waterval Boven, according to the Mpumalanga Department of Public Safety as reported by Sunday Tribune.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene, where eight occupants were declared dead. One person survived the collision but suffered serious injuries and was transported for medical treatment.

Provincial authorities confirmed that the N4 has been temporarily closed to traffic while emergency personnel clear the scene and investigators gather evidence.

Motorists travelling through the area are being diverted via Schoemanskloof until the road can be safely reopened.

The cause of the collision remains unknown at this stage, and an investigation has been launched to determine the circumstances that led to the tragedy.

The Department of Public Safety has urged motorists to exercise caution and follow traffic directives while travelling through the affected area.
