Young Lotus River gymnast Saarah Bosch continues to make her community proud after being crowned one of the champions at the Western Cape Artistic Gymnastics Championships (WCAGC) that took place at the Multi-Purpose Centre in Saldanha on Sunday 28 June.
The championship started on Thursday, 25 June and concluded on Sunday, 28 June, and was hosted by the Western Cape Gymnastics Association (WCGA).
WCGA organises and oversees the regional pathways that allow gymnasts from local clubs to advance to national competitions.
WCAGC featured regional athletes competing across various levels to qualify for the upcoming SA Gym Games and national trials.
Great achievement
Saarah has already built an impressive collection of gold medals as she blazes a trail on her gymnastics journey.
Earlier this year she qualified for the Western Cape gymnastics trials, bringing her one step closer to achieving her dream of representing South Africa on the international stage.
Reflecting on her victory in Saldanha, Saarah said she trained twice a week for the artistic gymnastics competition and thanked coach Enrico from Future Starts for allowing her to use the training venue.
“The competition was tough because there were many excellent gymnasts trying to improve on their previous scores,” she said.
Saarah added that her favourite event was the floor routine because she enjoys the dancing element, even though the routine is performed to prescribed music.
“I am very excited to have won gold, and I’m grateful to my coaches for helping me achieve my goal,” she said.
The final round that took place on Sunday, 28 June was the culmination of a weekend featuring Level 1 through Level 3 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) gymnasts.
Upcoming tournament
WAG Level 3 is a foundational competitive level where gymnasts focus on developing compulsory routines, improving strength, and mastering core technical skills across four apparatuses: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor.
Gymnasts who placed well during these provincial championships typically qualify to represent the Western Cape Team at the national level, which allows them to earn their provincial colours.
Saarah’s next challenge is the Western Cape Aerobics Championship, which will be held at Sid G Rule Primary School on Saturday 25 July.
Those wishing to support Saarah’s sporting journey can contact her mother, Rushana Bosch, on 062 775 7131.
