IMC chair, Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi said that the move will fast-track the documentation and clearance process…
“The reason why we move, it’s Beitbridge, it’s easier. It’s closer to the border but it’s where law enforcement coordinated for migration and for being able to process it easier. Also, we are avoiding the fact that we have too many pockets of people asking us to process them inside the country, and it’s different, so when you say at this point to move that way, that’s why we’re moving to Limpopo, Beitbridge, particularly to the border area,” Kubayi said.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber welcomed the development, saying it will alleviate the load on his department…
“Some of the challenges could relate to people having cross-border passports, and we are saying let us resolve that in a location close to the border so that we at least have one central processing system in place. I’m hoping that this intervention will give us a more centralised and coordinated manner of dealing with these issues,” Schreiber said.
