Gauteng Education MEC Lebogang Maile is expected to lift the lid on serious allegations of corruption, financial mismanagement, and governance failures at public schools across the province.
Maile will brief the media in Johannesburg on Sunday on findings and interventions relating to cases reported between 2023 and June this year.
The briefing comes amid continued scrutiny of governance and procurement practices at some provincial schools.
Lebogang Maile will outline reported cases of corruption, procurement irregularities, financial mismanagement, and related governance failures affecting public schools.
The department has indicated that the briefing will also focus heavily on the specific interventions and corrective actions taken to address the alleged irregularities.
Gauteng Education Spokesperson Onwabile Lubhelwana outlined the core focus of the address:
“The MEC will be addressing matters of corruption within schools, financial mismanagement, and governance failures, and interventions meant to address these challenges.”
The briefing is expected to provide greater insight into the true scale of the alleged irregularities and the legislative or administrative steps being taken to strengthen accountability within the provincial education system.
