KRUGERSDORP – The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has had to intervene after a group of evicted families were left stranded along the N14 in Krugersdorp.
An estimated 80 families were removed from the land they were occupying. They claim the eviction took place without a court order.
After the eviction, the residents moved closer to the N14, which, according to MEC Kedibone Diale-Tlabela, became a major safety concern for her department.
“We’ve entered the issue because these individuals are sleeping along the roadside, which is not safe,” she says.

“It’s an issue of road safety, and while we were there, we’ve learned that there are more residents who are also affected,” she adds.
Diale-Tlabela says the department has engaged Mogale City’s mayor and the National Department of Human Settlements to resolve the matter.
“We are happy that they have agreed to move to a temporary shelter,” says Diale-Tlabela.
The Department of Human Settlements is expected to meet with the residents later this week.
