A man suspected of accidentally fatally wounding a 12-year-old girl from Krugersdorp, Gauteng during a hunting expedition has been arrested and charged with murder.
Police spokesperson W/O Mmako Mophiring said the man was hunting with the child’s father at Franshoek Farm, near Ficksburg in the Free State, early on Friday morning.
It is alleged that he accidentally discharged a firearm. The bullet hit the girl. She was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival around 9 a.m. Friday.
“The incident was reported to the police by hospital staff. A case of murder was registered and all the suspect’s firearms were seized for forensic ballistics examination as part of the investigation.
“The suspect has been arrested and charged with murder. He will appear in Ficksburg District Court today [Monday].”
