At least 700 Malawians processed for repatriation in Eastern Cape

It said district and metro municipalities have identified displacement centres to accommodate migrants if needed.

Authorities have also put logistics in place to ensure the safe processing and escort of those being deported or repatriated.

South African law enforcement agencies are on high alert ahead of anticipated nationwide protests against illegal immigration.

Eastern Cape police have identified at least 14 priority areas across the province where demonstrations are expected.

Premier Oscar Mabuyane has urged those planning to participate in the demonstrations to do so peacefully.

“I call on all citizens to remain calm and conduct themselves in accordance with the laws of the country and condemn all forms of intimidation, harassment, or violence directed at any individual irrespective of their nationality or immigration status.”

Mabuyane has also stressed that Tuesday remains a normal business day and that no one should be prevented from going to work or conducting their daily activities.
