Western Cape storms: Winde appeals for patience as recovery operations continue

Winde said repair work is continuing in several regions across the Western Cape, including the Cape Winelands, where a major power line between Boskloof and Romansrivier is still being fixed.

Winde said Eskom has reconnected electricity to around 80% of affected areas, while work is being done to repair damaged infrastructure in Citrusdal, Algeria and Lutzville.

With more than 60 of the 400 roads affected by the storms now reopened, Winde is calling for more patience.

“We understand the frustration many residents are feeling. It has been an exceptionally difficult time and we, along with all role players, apologise for any inconvenience. We thank residents for their patience.”

He said humanitarian relief has intensified, and officials are working under difficult conditions to restore critical services as quickly as possible.
