Western Cape shooting spree leaves seven dead in Khayamandi

The Western Cape’s provincial serious violent crime detectives have launched a manhunt for suspects linked to a series of shooting incidents in Khayamandi, Stellenbosch, which left seven people dead on Friday evening and early Saturday morning.

SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Novela Potelwa said investigators are probing whether the incidents are connected.

She added that one of the incidents occurred in Mgabadeli, where a 46-year-old man was shot and killed after returning from work. He was allegedly attacked by three gunmen who fled the scene.

In Thubelisha, two men aged 27 and 32 were also shot by unidentified assailants at around 9 pm.

“The motive for the shooting incidents is the subject of the police investigation currently underway,” she said.

In a separate incident in Fire Street, officers discovered the bodies of a 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman inside a shack, both with gunshot wounds.

“Police on patrol were flagged down and alerted to another incident in Luyolo Street between the shacks, where they discovered the body of a 33-year-old man with gunshot wounds.”

In the early hours of Saturday morning, officers responded to 7th Avenue, where a 37-year-old man was also found dead with gunshot wounds.

Potelwa said no arrests have been made, and detectives are continuing to investigate whether the incidents are linked.
