Western Cape residents are being urged to take steps to protect themselves and their homes ahead of a spell of severe weather expected in the province.
With two cold fronts set to make landfall from Sunday to Tuesday next week, the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued an advisory to expect stormy conditions throughout the province.
Disaster risk management spokesperson Charlotte Powell warns the systems could bring inclement weather.
“Two cold fronts are set to make landfall – the first on Sunday morning and the second on Monday. The frontal systems will result in disruptive rainfall, leading to potential localised flooding, strong to gale force winds and damaging waves along coastal areas.”

Powell said all relevant city services are on standby: “We ask that residents, too, put in place mitigation measures to protect their properties, including clearing gutters and any other blockages on their property; checking roofs for any leaks or loose sheets, securing any loose items and materials like garden furniture etc. That could be vulnerable to wind gusts.”
Powell said early action could limit damage and keep people safe as the weather systems sweep through the province.
