SolarAfrica acquires Nyakallo solar-BESS project in Limpopo

SolarAfrica, renewable energy company,  has entered into an agreement to acquire the Nyakallo utility-scale solar and battery storage project from Norsk Renewables in Limpopo, South Africa. The project is expected to deliver grid-connected renewable electricity to commercial and industrial customers from the second half of 2028. Norsk Renewables originally developed the project with support from Green Soll and advanced grid connection, permitting and initial design activities. SolarAfrica will serve as the long-term owner and funding sponsor, while Norsk Renewables will continue supporting development and financing activities. Financial close is expected within the next 12 months with the project positioned within an existing Eskom transmission corridor. Nyakallo will include battery energy storage to support flexible power delivery beyond solar generation hours. The acquisition expands SolarAfrica’s utility-scale pipeline, which totals approximately 1.5 GW in advanced development.
