LIMPOPO – In difficult economic times, the 31-year-old Angel Tshirangwana from Hamutsha near Louis Trichardt is proving that determination and hard work can create opportunity.
Building a home-based cleaning business
The young single mother has built a small business selling affordable cleaning products, using it as a source of income to support her family.
Tshirangwana started by supplying essential household items such as stain removers, floor polish and other cleaning products.
She said she realised that every home, whether in urban or rural areas, requires these necessities, and she used that insight to develop her business idea.
Challenges facing the business
The journey has, however, not been easy.
She often struggles with limited stock, while many customers buy on credit and only pay at the end of the month, affecting cash flow.
Rising fuel prices have also made it more difficult to restock supplies.
Operating from home
At present, she operates her business from her home kitchen, which she says is not ideal or safe due to the chemicals involved in the products she handles.
Despite these challenges, Tshirangwana remains focused on growing her venture. Her goal is to expand beyond her current circumstances.
“My vision is to grow the business and be able to sell my products to other places outside the province,” she said.
Plans for expansion and job creation
She also hopes to move into proper business premises, including owning a warehouse, and eventually create employment opportunities for others in her community.
Encouraging youth entrepreneurship
Tshirangwana has encouraged young people to take advantage of opportunities available to them, saying entrepreneurship can play a key role in improving livelihoods.
“I urge the youth to consider entrepreneurship as a pathway to success. Starting your own business not only allows you to pursue your passion and interests, but also contributes to economic development and job creation in our communities,” she said.
