LIMPOPO – For many young footballers in Limpopo, the dream of playing professional football often feels far away. But for aspiring talent Success Rikhotso, determination, discipline, and belief continue to drive his journey toward the Premier Soccer League (PSL).
Rikhotso’s football journey began in 2018 while he was still in Gr 7, playing for his school team. Since then, the young player has remained committed to improving his game and building a future in football.
Family support and inspiration
He credits much of his growth and motivation to the people closest to him.
“Papa Tiko had the biggest influence on my football journey. My family, Papa Tiko, and uncle Juri always motivate me to keep pushing because they believe one day things will get better,” said Rikhotso.
Challenges, training, and future ambitions
Like many athletes, the road has not been easy. The talented youngster revealed that his biggest challenge has been a recurring knee injury that has affected him since mid-2025.
“My knee is my toughest challenge. Sometimes I feel like I’m losing my talent because it doesn’t fully heal, and I’m always injured because of it,” he explained.
Despite the setbacks, Rikhotso continues to put in the work daily. His routine includes morning training sessions, gym work, and afternoon team training.
“Every morning I go to the field for individual training, sometimes with teammates. We also spend time in the gym before meeting again in the afternoon for team training,” he said.
Inspired by Giyani-born PSL star Wiseman Madlaya
Rikhotso draws inspiration from fellow Giyani-born footballer Wiseman Madlaya, whose success in the PSL has shown young players from the area that professional football is achievable.
“He showed us that it’s possible to play in the PSL and win trophies,” Rikhotso said.
Known for his ability to hold onto the ball and challenge defenders, the young footballer is currently focused on improving his physical strength and fitness.
One of his proudest achievements so far was being named young player of the tournament at the Xilumani Soccer Tournament in Shimange village.
Currently playing for Gooo Record Breakers Sports Academy, Rikhotso has his sights firmly set on reaching the National First Division (NFD), believing it could open doors to PSL scouts and bigger opportunities.
Balancing football, education, and advice
Away from football, he enjoys spending time with his family, who remain his biggest support system.
The ambitious youngster is also preparing for a new chapter academically and athletically at TUT Giyani Campus, where a newly formed football team hopes to compete for opportunities in varsity football competitions.
Although the team recently lost in the final of a Limpopo TUT campuses tournament, Rikhotso remains optimistic about the future.
“It was our first tournament as a team, and I’m proud of what we achieved. With time, we believe we will become champions,” he said.
Advice for younger players with professional dreams
Rikhotso also shared a message for young players who dream of success in football.
“They must stay away from alcohol and drugs and focus on themselves, school, and football if they want to achieve their goals,” he advised.
With passion, discipline, and resilience, Success Rikhotso continues to pursue his dream of one day becoming a PSL player and making his family proud.
