Lentegeur Volleyball Club’s Xaylon Meas, Xavier van der Ross, and Shurian Moonsamy have been included in the Western Cape under-19 side selected to take part in the upcoming inter-provincial tournament in Johannesburg in June. The youngsters earned provincial selection after strong performances for their club.
Head coach Shaquil Bergstedt said the club, established in 2022, uses volleyball as a tool to teach ball and life skills. He said their selection is an important achievement for both the players and the club’s growth as they prepare to compete against the country’s top young volleyball talent.
“We are very proud of the boys and hope that they go on to the next level and make the SA national team,” he said.
Xaylon and Xavier were part of the club’s Premier Division side that faced UWC in a Cape Town Volleyball Federation league fixture at the German School in Tamboerskloof.
“I started playing volleyball in Grade 9, and the sport has helped me improve physically and mentally,” said Xaylon.
His teammate, Xavier, said he has had to work hard on his game since he started playing four years ago after being introduced to the sport by his sister. “In the end, it worked out okay,” he said.
