A night of socialising outside a tavern in the Zamimpilo informal settlement, Langlaagte, Gauteng, turned into a deadly shooting that left two men dead and four others injured in the early hours of Sunday.

According to Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko, a group of more than 40 people had been sitting outside a tavern, drinking and socialising, when the calm of the early morning was shattered in seconds.

It is alleged that “three unknown suspects approached the group and, without saying a single word, suddenly opened fire on the group”.

In an instant, what was a social night outside a tavern turned into a scene of chaos, fear, and bloodshed as people ran for cover.

Sibeko said six people were shot during the incident.

The police confirmed that detectives were working to establish the circumstances surrounding the shooting, while the community had been left reeling in shock following the shooting.
