Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi has received a memorandum of demands from anti-illegal immigration protesters, but declined to address the crowd at length.
Hundreds of demonstrators marched from Newtown through Braamfontein, Johannesburg, Jeppestown, and Hillbrow before arriving at the Gauteng Legislature.
The group, made up of members of civic organisation March and March, ActionSA and supporters, accuses government of failing to act decisively against undocumented migration.
Similar protest action has also been seen in parts of KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape as the movement continues to gain momentum.
Lesufi thanked protesters but walked away to boos after briefly addressing the crowd, saying government would respond within the seven-day deadline.
Meanwhile, Action SA leader Herman Mashaba was met by cheers, thanking all attendees for their conduct.
