The murder and robbery unit based in Phuthaditjhaba has appealed to the community for assistance in the murder of Khehla Sithole, 59, a taxi owner with the Majakathata Taxi Association, who was reportedly shot and killed in his vehicle. They are offering a reward of R25,000.
Sithole was reportedly in his driving school car when two unknown men approached him and pretended to inquire about driving lesson prices in August 2024. One of them allegedly shot him multiple times before fleeing the scene in a Toyota Yaris.
Police are offering a reward of up to R50,000 for information leading to arrests in the double murder of Melefe Mokoena, 69, and Seeko Matshidiso,16. They were shot while traveling in a white Isuzu KB bakkie from Elizabeth Ross Hospital to Katlehong Village, Namahadi in 2024.
“The Free State Homicide and Robbery Unit, based in Phuthaditjhaba, is requesting information from the community in relation to the murder that took place in QwaQwa between 2024 and 2026,” said Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring.
Several taxi leaders were shot dead here. Police have asked the community for information and the agency has already approved rewards of up to R50,000.
Police are still searching for suspects linked to the murder of a prosecutor, Moshe Lefuma, 40, and his mother, Dinah Monehi, 61, who were shot and killed by two unknown suspects.
In November 2024, Monehi was at home with her sons when two unknown men walked into the house and asked about her eldest son, Moshe, who was sleeping in one of the bedrooms.
Despite being asked why they were looking for him, they went straight to his bedroom. She followed them. The next moment, the youngest son heard gunshots and ran out of the house.
The unit is also offering a reward of up to R50,000 for information leading to arrests for the murder of Matshediso Nteo,57, who was also the president of the Qwauta Taxi Association. She was reportedly shot dead in her home by unknown suspects.
The police have been searching four suspects after the fatal shooting of Nteo. They said the murder may have been linked to her role in the taxi industry. Nteo was recently elected chairman of the Qwauta Association within the taxi industry.
