Former North West Premier Kaobitsa “Bushy” Maape has died at the age of 68.
In a statement, Maape’s family confirmed his passing, stating that he died peacefully on Saturday surrounded by loved ones, following a short illness.
Maape served as the seventh premier of the North West from 2021 to 2024.
During his time in office, he travelled abroad for medical treatment on the advice of his doctors. While opposition parties criticised the trips, the ANC in the North West defended Maape, saying his health required urgent attention.
