In the final few weeks of the season, the Limpopo province faces the danger of losing two clubs from the professional ranks, while another looks set for relegation from the Betway Premiership.

Magesi FC were hammered 4-1 by Kaizer Chiefs on Wednesday night and, with just six matches to go, they are knocking on the door of second tier football next season. Currently bottom of the standings, Magesi have recorded just three victories this season and have some tough matches against clubs fighting for different things.

The club which made its topflight debut last season still has matches against Durban City, TS Galaxy, Orbit College, Orlando Pirates, Siwelele FC and Richards Bay FC.

In the Motsepe Foundation Championship, Black Leopards and Baroka FC are in danger  of being relegated to amateur football in the ABC Motsepe League. Leopards and Baroka are in 15th and 16th place respectively, with six matches to go in the second tier.

Baroka are seven points behind 14th placed Midlands Wanderers, meaning there is little room for error in the final six matches. The former Telkom Knockout champions have registered just one victory in 10 matches in 2026, with five goals scored during that period.

It’s been a horrible 2026 for the club and coach Tlisane Motaung has a big job of having to turn things around in the final few matches of the campaign, starting with the clash against Lerumo Lions at Dobsonville Stadium this Sunday.

Leopards, meanwhile, are four points from 14th spot, but will be encouraged by recent results. Lidoda Duvha have lost just one in their last five matches, winning two and drawing two during that period. They have a big clash away from home against Casric Stars on Friday afternoon, needing to upset the promotion challenging side in KwaMhlanga.

As things stand, Polokwane City is the only club from Limpopo in the professional ranks that’s representing the province well. They are fighting to keep their spot in the Top Eight.

The final few weeks of the season will be important for the three clubs as they look to avoid relegation in their respective leagues. There is little room for error for Magesi, Leopards and Baroka.
