A 14-year-old girl was left traumatised after she was allegedly chased down and raped by a stranger in a secluded bush area between villages in Limpopo.
South African Police Service (SAPS) in Magatle under the Capricorn District confirmed that a rape case had been opened following the shocking incident, which took place on Tuesday afternoon between Mehlareng and Khureng villages.
“The incident occurred on Tuesday, at about 2pm, in the bushes,” said police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
The teenager had reportedly been walking with a friend when an unknown adult man approached them and tried to join them.
When the girls refused and ran, the suspect allegedly chased them down, caught the victim, and carried out the brutal attack.
The girl was later rescued by community members, and the case was reported to police before being escalated to specialised investigators.
Ledwaba added: “The suspect is currently unknown, and police have launched a manhunt.”
The case has been handed over to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit in Mokopane, as authorities intensify efforts to track down the suspect.
Police have urged anyone with information to come forward as the search continues.
