Several parts of the country can expect harsh weather from Thursday, following a warning for severe thunderstorms.
The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has forecast heavy rainfall for the North West, Northern Cape, Eastern Cape and Free State provinces.
It said the thundershowers are linked to a phenomenon known as a “cut-off low”, which can result in prolonged severe conditions.
SAWS forecaster Moneiwa Singa has urged residents in the affected provinces to exercise caution during the heavy rains.
“Members of the public are advised to exercise caution by observing driving safety precautions and reducing speed where necessary, avoiding flooded roads and low-lying areas, and refraining from seeking shelter under trees or tall objects during storms.
“The South African Weather Service will continue to monitor conditions closely and will issue updates as necessary.”
