Captain Sipho Junior Muntanga was the man of the moment, walking away with a hat-trick, while Anam Nkele helped himself to a brace. Modise Mojapelo and Rorisang Tsaagane were also on the scoresheet as Randburg ran riot.

Muntanga broke the deadlock to give his side the lead at half-time. He picked up where he left off at the start of the second half, tapping in within seconds of the restart before adding a thunderous fourth later in the half. Nkele contributed the third and fifth, Mojapelo coolly rounded the goalkeeper and rolled into an empty net for the sixth, and Tsaagane had the final say with the seventh goal.

Reflecting on the performance, Muntanga was keen to stress what the result meant for the team. “Top performance today, obviously a home game, so we had to make sure that we got all three points. Winning 7–0 sends a big statement out to the other teams within the league. The past few games we’ve been inconsistent, but I think today is a good way to get us back on form.”

The win came on the back of a 6–2 loss at Naturena the week before, and Muntanga made clear the squad had drawn from that disappointment. “We forgot about that game and moved on. We focused more in the week on getting back to basics, in terms of formation, technique, and tactical awareness. Just getting the boys in the right mindset in terms of getting that winning mentality back.”

Coach Colins Mbesuma welcomed the three points, but was not entirely happy with how his side managed the game after going out of sight. “The boys came to the party. The second half was much better, but when you score four or five, the tempo drops. When you miss against a Sundowns or a Shifts, it’s high intensity. If you make a mistake, they punish you.”

East Rand coach Andrew Mitchell took the defeat on the chin. “We actually didn’t have players. We’re still busy reinforcing our squad, but we’ll get there. This is only a lesson for us. The boys were positive.”

Randburg will be buoyed by the result as they prepare for a reported trip to Cape Town.
