With days away before the admissions deadline, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is urging parents and guardians to submit applications for the 2027 academic school year.
The Western Cape MEC for Education, David Maynier, gave an update on admissions of Grade 7 learners who will be starting high school next year.
Maynier has raised concerns that many Grade 7 learners’ parents have not completed their admission at this stage.
“Parents are responsible for submitting their school applications on time, but there are still 22,409 learners currently attending Grade 7 in the Western Cape whose parents have not yet applied for a place in Grade 8 next year,” Maynier said.
The WCED opened admissions for Grades R, 1, and 8 on March 10, with its deadline fast approaching on April 14.
The admissions process, administered by the WCED, allows parents to submit applications through an online platform designed to simplify the process and improve planning for the upcoming school year.
“Applying on time helps us to plan for a place for your child in a school next year. We have made the online application process as easy as possible, so there is no reason to delay your application,” Maynier said.
This weekend, a number of pop-up admissions sites will be made available across the province for parents and guardians who need in-person assistance.
