The Northern Cape is advancing tourism as a core pillar of its economic strategy, unlocking new investment opportunities across its unique landscapes, heritage assets and growing visitor economy.

As the province prepares to host the inaugural Northern Cape Investment and Jobs Conference this month, tourism has been firmly positioned as a cornerstone sector, offering significant opportunities for investors, entrepreneurs and industry partners. Set to take place from 13–15 April at the Mittah Seperepere International Convention Centre in Kimberley, the conference will bring together key stakeholders from government, business and academia to accelerate industrialisation, stimulate economic development and drive job creation.

Speaking ahead of the event, MEC for Finance, Economic Development and Tourism, Venus Blennies-Magage, emphasised the province’s strong tourism value proposition: “Tourism in the Northern Cape is not only a powerful economic driver, but a gateway to inclusive growth and sustainable development. With our diverse landscapes, from the vast Kalahari to iconic landmarks like Augrabies Falls National Park and the seasonal splendour of Namaqualand, the province is uniquely positioned to offer world-class experiences.”

Rooted in national frameworks such as the 1996 White Paper on the Development and Promotion of Tourism and aligned with the National Development Plan, the province’s strategy promotes a collaborative, private-sector-driven tourism ecosystem. At a provincial level, tourism growth is further prioritised through targeted marketing, infrastructure investment and SMME development initiatives.

The Northern Cape’s tourism offering continues to expand, supported by improved accessibility, evolving hospitality experiences and new product development aimed at both domestic and international markets. Broader investment opportunities are being unlocked through initiatives such as the Northern Cape Industrial Corridor and the province’s ambitious Green Hydrogen programme, positioning the region at the forefront of sustainable development. The upcoming Northern Cape Investment and Jobs Conference will serve as a platform to showcase these opportunities, connect investors with high-potential projects and catalyse partnerships across key sectors, including tourism. Investors, tourism operators and businesses are invited to register their interest in attending the Northern Cape Investment and Jobs Conference and explore how they can be part of the province’s growth journey.
