The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of scattered showers and thundershowers, which may lead to localised flooding in parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Limpopo, the North West, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal.
Impact-based warnings:
Yellow Level 2 warning: Severe thunderstorms leading to localised flooding of susceptible roads, low-lying areas and bridges, as well as localised damage to infrastructure and settlements (informal) is expected over Limpopo.
Yellow Level 2 warning: Damaging wind and waves leading to disruption of ports/small harbours activities for a short period of time, and difficulty in navigation at sea is expected between Alexander Bay and Algoa Bay.
Yellow Level 2 warning: Storm surge leading to localised damage to coastal infrastructure, such as walkways, pipelines, property, road and rail routes; localised disruptions to beachfront activities, such as closure of beaches for swimming, shore/rock angling; and localised flooding of some coastal areas between Plettenberg Bay and Algoa Bay.
In the SAWS’ colour-coded weather warning system, yellow indicates a moderate risk of impact that requires caution and awareness, while orange indicates that a higher-risk impact is expected, requiring increased attention and preparation.
The SAWS uses the numbers to indicate the likelihood of weather-based impacts occurring. Levels 2 and 6 are high, and Level 4 is low.
