JOHANNESBURG – The Gauteng Department of Health is warning of a rise in malaria cases in the province.
In the first three months of 2026, 414 cases and 11 deaths have already been recorded, up from 230 cases and one death during the same period last year.
Health officials link the increase to travel to high-risk areas such as Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and neighbouring countries such as Mozambique.
Residents are urged to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms such as fever, chills, or fatigue, and to take preventive measures if they are travelling to malaria-endemic areas.
