Gauteng traffic police are urging motorists to cooperate with law enforcement authorities this Easter weekend as people travel to various destinations.
Authorities have been deployed along all major highways exiting the province to boost visibility and enhance safety.
During last year’s Easter period, 167 people lost their lives on South African roads.
Gauteng traffic police spokesperson Sello Maremane said drivers must prioritise safe and responsible driving.

“Over speeding, unsafe overtaking, reckless and negligent driving and overloaded vehicles, including trailers and public transport carrying many passengers, are the major contributing factors to road crashes during this period. Overloading compromises vehicle stability, increases braking distance, increases the risk of tyre bursts, and significantly raises the likelihood of serious and fatal accidents,” said Maremane.
