The Free State Rugby Union (FSRU) has congratulated the Bloemfontein Police on being crowned champions of the Free State Challenge Cup after a gripping and hard-fought final against Collegians Rugby Club.
In what proved to be a true spectacle of club rugby, Bloemfontein Police defeated Collegians 17-13 in a closely contested match that kept supporters on the edge of their seats until the final whistle. Both teams showed immense determination, physicality and tactical discipline to produce a final worthy of the occasion.
The match showcased the very best of Free State club rugby, with neither side willing to give an inch in a battle defined by resilience and passion. Bloemfontein Police ultimately held their nerve to secure victory and claim the prestigious Challenge Cup title.
In addition to receiving the trophy, the Bloemfontein Police also took home the winner’s prize money of R25,000, a fitting reward for their outstanding performance during the competition.
Coenraad Klopper, President of the Free State Rugby Union, praised both teams for an exceptional final and the overall success of the tournament:

This final showcased everything that makes club rugby special: passion, intensity and community pride. Credit also goes to the colleagues who pushed them to their limits. I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the Club and Competition Committee for their hard work in delivering a successful tournament, led by Vice President Jan-Hendrik Cronje as Club Chairman- and competition committee. The Challenge Cup has once again demonstrated the strength of our clubs and the exciting future of rugby in the Free State.”
The Free State Rugby Union extends its appreciation to all participating clubs, players, officials and supporters who contributed to the success of the competition.
As the curtain closes on an exciting Challenge Cup campaign, the FSRU looks forward with great anticipation to the remainder of the rugby season, building on the momentum that has been created and continues to grow and strengthen club rugby across the province.
