The ANC in Limpopo has moved to consolidate its provincial leadership and organisational machinery following its inaugural Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) meeting held this week.
The meeting comes on the back of the party’s 11th Provincial Conference and was framed against a month of historical reflection for the ANC. In its statement, the party noted the timing, referencing the legacy of Struggle stalwarts such as Solomon Mahlangu, Chris Hani, and Oliver Reginald Tambo.
“The meeting took place at a historic and politically significant moment in the life of the ANC and the democratic Struggle of our people,” Provincial Secretary, Ruben Madadzhe, said in a statement.
Provincial Chairperson Phophi Ramathuba delivered a political overview, focusing on internal cohesion and the party’s responsibilities on the ground.
Quoting Tambo, Ramathuba stressed that “unity is the rock upon which the movement was founded. It is the fundamental condition for victory.”
This emphasis on unity comes at a time when the ANC nationally continues to navigate internal divisions and declining electoral support in key regions.
In line with its constitutional provisions, the PEC resolved to co-opt three additional members to broaden representation. The newly co-opted members are Orginia Mafefe, Delly Matjomane, and Bongani Nkonyana.
The committee also made strategic appointments to strengthen its operational capacity. Tonny Rachoene was elected head of Communications, while Goodman Mitileni takes over as head of Organising. Both will serve as permanent invitees to the Provincial Working Committee (PWC).
As part of efforts to “ensure organisational effectiveness”, the PEC formally constituted the PWC, which will oversee day-to-day political and administrative functions.
The PWC is led by Ramathuba, alongside Deputy Chairperson John Mpe, Madadzhe, Deputy Secretary Pule Shayi, and Treasurer Eddie Maila.
Additional members were unanimously elected, signalling what the party describes as a unified leadership bloc emerging from the conference process.
In a move that points to early groundwork for the upcoming local government elections, the PEC confirmed deployments of leaders to key regions across the province. Convenors have been assigned to Peter Mokaba, Norman Mashabane, Vhembe, Waterberg, and Sekhukhune regions.
The ANC said these deployments are intended to strengthen branch structures and improve oversight at the regional level, particularly as the party prepares for local government candidate selection processes.
The party will host a provincial rally on April 11, 2026, at Giyani Stadium to formally introduce the new PEC and launch branch general meetings for councillor candidate nominations.
The rally will be addressed by Ramathuba and is expected to mark the start of intensified mobilisation efforts ahead of the next local government elections.
“The ANC Limpopo will convene a provincial rally to launch the ANC Local Government Councillor Candidate Nomination Branch General Meetings,” Madadzhe said.
